No, it's not Disney on drugs. It is not sort of a déjà vue of the world famous castle of Neuschwanstein. Miramare is a class of its own. Opening times
Being built right on the top of the sea by a Habsburger the castle of Miramare has not lost its magical aura until today.
Miramare was the royal mediterranean home of Ore duke Ferdinand Maximilian (he was the brother of Franz Joseph who made Grado his favorite health resort). Miramare opened its doors in 1860, it was being constructed by a plan of C. Junker.
Miramare kept its somewhat mystical spirit even inside - splendid furniture, old paintings, the whole atmosphere feels like teleporting you back into the times of the Empress Sissi (she spent some time in this very castle).
Like the castle of Duino, which you can find not too far away, Miramare has to offer a most remarkable garden which is worth a visity in every season.
