Coming from the beautiful castle of Miramare you can reach Trieste directly via the Viale Miramare.
The lighthouse at the left hand side is a great opportunity to enjoy an overwhelming panoramic view over both the sea and the city as well. (The lighthouse was build in 1927 in memory of the victims of war.)
Entering Trieste you will pass the main station at the Piazza LibertĂ . Here starts the so called Borgo Teresiano, the (relatively) new city of Trieste that once was constructed under the reign of Empress Maria Theresia at the middle of the 18th century.
The very heart of the Borgo Teresiano is the Canal Grande (don't get it mixed up with the Canal Grande in Venice which is different). Once upon a time the Canal Grande of Trieste had movable bridges to let the incoming ships pass by. But a part of the canal has been filled up so that navigation on the canal was reduced to zero.
