Fortress cities

There are quite some fortress cities in Friuli and Veneto. The most impressing ones as Citadella, Montagnana and Palmanova let you take a look back in time.

Citadella (you'd probably had guessed the character of the city by its name, didn't you) right between Treviso and Vicenza gives has been built 13th century. Even today it is undoubtly impressing: 32 towers, walls with a height of 12 meters. If you are interested in how fortresses were working at these times: Go there and you won't be dissapointed.

Palmanova (20km from Udine, 50 km from Triest) is particularly impressing because of its renaissance architecture and mathematical proportions. Today its is a small town of 5000 inhabitants.
