The carneval of Venice

No matter if noble or normal: since centuries the Venecians love to celebrate the carneval for about ten days - hidden behind magnificent masks that made Venice famous (among other).
Btw. the name derives from latin and means bye bye meat (carne vale).

The masks have a looong tradition here. With them they could (and still can) enjoy the illusion to be someone else. Indeed this symbolizes the Janus-facedness of the Serenissima: Showing by hiding...
