With a total volume of 365,000 m³, the Giant Cave of Trieste is the largest stalactite cave in Europe (located in Sconico near Trieste). A guided tour lasts about 1 hour. With a temperature of 11 °C, be sure to bring a sweater.
Due to the enormous height, the world's two longest measuring pendulums are located here, used to measure seismic movements while shielded from atmospheric influences.
The cave was originally explored by Federico Lindner, who investigated the underground course of the Timavo (at just two kilometers long, it is considered the shortest river in the world).
