The town owes its name to the Este family of Ferrara, who had a castle built here 700 years ago, though it no longer exists. Lido degli Estensi is one of the three largest beach resorts, along with Lido delle Nazioni and Porto Garibaldi.
At the southern end of the beach is an outdoor pool with a giant slide. In the evenings, there are musical performances for all ages. Sometimes, especially on weekends, you don't even need to be there because you can hear the music from your hotel room anyway (but only until midnight).
Recently, Lido degli Estensi gained a large, modern marina, the Marina degli Estensi.
