If you're looking for a change of pace, you might want to plan a visit to the Corona della Madonna - a spectacularly situated pilgrimage church in the Veneto region.

• A trip to one of Europe's largest caves, where it stays so cool even in summer that you shouldn't forget to bring a sweater.

• If you're spending your vacation in the Rimini area, you're in luck: San Marino is just a short trip away, where you can enjoy the cool breeze blowing off the cliffs.
  You can even get there by bike from Rimini - it's just 4 kilometers away.

at the Bibione Thermal Baths, where you can recover from the rigors of beach life and unwind completely.

• A ride on an open-top boat (with a sun deck) on the Brenta River (the canal connecting Venice and Padova), where you can admire the imposing villas at their best. Along the way, you'll pass Villa Pisani, for example. Its garden, especially the maze, offers a refreshing change from all the usual beach activities.

• Or a boat trip,
  where you can feel the lake breeze on your face. If you don't want to rent your own boat right away (see our marina directory for docking spots), you could check out a trip to Muschelinsel.

• Overcast skies over the lagoon? Wonderful!
  Venice is one of those cities that takes on a special charm, especially when it rains. Even flooding becomes an event here. Nowhere else but in Venice can you see rubber boots sold in newsstands as casually as chewing gum.

• As the English would say, you might as well make the best of the situation. If you're going to get wet, you might as well do it properly. The front desk at your hotel will be happy to assist you.
  Or you could visit what was, until recently, the deepest swimming pool in the world in Montegrotto / Abano Terme.

• A ride on the indoor go-kart
  track With a helmet on your head and the indoor roof overhead - not a single raindrop gets through. The go-kart track is located in Villorba.
