No wonder, since Chioggia is one of Italy's largest fishing ports. The fishing fleets venture far out into the Mediterranean to bring in fresh fish and shellfish every day. Chioggia has the second-largest fishing fleet in the Adriatic and a historic fish market.
Starting in this part of the Adriatic, you'll also find stationary fishing stations with their characteristic nets, which you'll encounter even more frequently further south, for example in Comacchio.
