The North of Venice
It extends north to the Santa Lucia train station. Of course, many tourists come to Cannaregio because they have to pass through it.
This is also where the majority of Venice's residents live - not least because of its proximity to public transportation. (Imagine living in Burano and having to commute to Mestre every day...)
The most visited attraction in Cannaregio is the Jewish Ghetto.
Of course, you can work your way through Cannaregio with your guidebook and visit everything you "have to see," sort of.
