What was once the seat of power is now the heart of tourism, featuring St. Mark's Square, the grand St. Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace, and many other attractions such as the Teatro La Fenice and the Correr Museum. Nowhere else in Venice attracts more tourists. In the summer, the narrow streets are packed with pedestrians. Prices in Venice's San Marco district are even higher than the citywide average. This is especially true for the area around St. Mark's Square.
